Absztrakt
Az Ószövetség világában tisztában voltak azzal, hogygyermeknek életet adni nem elsősorban emberi elváráson alapuló kötelesség, hanem mindenek előtt Istentől kapott lehetőség. A történeteket olvasva ugyanakkor gyakran szembesülünk a gyermektelenség ínségével, a meddőség, terméketlenség szomorú és reménytelen helyzeteivel. Ebben a tanulmányban azt a nagy kérdéskört járjuk körül, hogy a bibliai emberek hogyan élték meg a gyermektelenség tapasztalatát, hogyan „dacoltak” a nők a biológiai terméketlenséggel, ennek milyen lenyomatai vannak az egyes szövegekben, és milyen teológiai reflexiók, illetve etikai dilemmák kapcsolódnak ezekhez a sorsokhoz, döntésekhez, az ókori mediterrán társadalmi normarendszer keretei között.

„The fruit of the womb is GOD’s reward?” – Barrenness in the World of the Bible
Abstract
In the world of the Old Testament giving birth to a child is not a duty arising from human expectation, but, first and foremost, a chance given by God. Reading the stories one often faces with the distress caused by childlessness, the grief and hopeless situations of infertility and sterility. This study is aimed at exploring this complex problem, the way people from the Bible experienced childlessness, how women „defied” biological inferitility, what prints individual texts have preserved, what theological reflections and dilemmas of ethics are related to these fates, decisions in the normative system of ancient Mediterranean societies.
